Parent of harming party youth on what was the best part of conferencing:

“My son getting insight on how this issue affected him, the family, and also the community”

Victim who participated in conferencing:

“It went well and everyone was cooperative, so it brought relief and more trust to us”

How Does Conferencing Work?

You can have a meeting with the person who hurt you to talk about what happened. There will be other people in the room with you the whole time, two facilitators and your support people.

The Facilitator will:

·      make sure that you are safe

·      help you decide what you want to say before the meeting

·      speak to you after the meeting to check you are ok

The meeting will only happen if everyone wants it to AND You can change your mind at any time.

Why Should I Do Restorative Justice?

If you have been hurt:

·      You can form a reparations agreement

·      you can ask the person who hurt you questions

·      tell them how you feel

·      tell them not to do it again

If you have hurt someone, you can understand how the person you hurt feels, make amends and can tell them:

·      Why you hurt them

·      That you are sorry

·      And it can help you not hurt anyone again
